Hard drive?
Whenever I start my computer a notice pops up saying that “The primary IDE Master hard drive self monitoring systerm has reported that a parameter has exceeded its normal operating range. Dell recommends that you back up your data regularly.
A parameter out of range may or may not indicate a potential hard drive problem.
Strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.”
If I strike F1, the computer starts fine but is very slow. How can I resolve this issue?
Your drive is failing, Backup your data while you can and you will need to replace the drive. It will get to the point where it will not boot at all and your data may be lost. If your pc is under warranty still call dell and they can issue you an “RMA” number to get a new drive. If you do not have a warranty go to a local computer shop and either buy a replacement or have them install it for you. You will need to have windows reinstalled along with any programs you have on the pc. If you have the operating system cd and the drivers cd (one of the blue ones, says drivers in small print) you may be able to do it yourself.
