Do you think this diamond appraisal is accurate?
I recently purchased a diamond engagement ring from a local family owned jeweler. The diamond specs are: Round, .74 carrot, ideal, D color, and SI1. It was set in a solitaire platinum Hearts on Fire setting. I paid $3500. The appraisal came back (from the same store) at $5800.
I don’t know, I’m just starting to question if I was ripped off or not.

You paid $3,500 and the appraisal came back at $5,800? Maybe you got your numbers swapped, because if not you got a good deal…
Well you have to consider that the appraisal isn’t going to be what you paid, usually less. It’s really what they jewelry would buy it from you for, or what someone else would buy it from you for.
If you buy a car from the dealer for X amount of dollars, the dealer isn’t going to buy it back at X price. And someone else in the market isn’t going to buy it at X price either…
