When do you start learning your major in college?
When do you start really getting into your major when your in college? I heard many people say you will start your junior year. I was wondering because i want to go to a college in Charlotte, NC but they only offer general communication study, while a college i Chapel Hill, NC offer mass communication. I was like to take mass but if i can’t get into Chapel Hill than would it be okay if i go to Charlotte and transfer later to Chapel Hill after two years? So can you please tell me when college’s really start teaching you about your major.
You start going into your major releated classes after completion of lower division general education classes. Which is completed in your first 2 years of college. However, at the lower division level you take a few PRE-Major classes. Classes to take at the lower division(freshman/sophmore) 15 of them are G.E related and 5 are major realted. Thus, at the Freshman/Sophmore level 85% of your classes are G.E related and 15% are major related. However, once you go into your 3rd year of college (Junior) you really get into your major. Where in which 90% of your classes during your 3rd and 4th year of college are major related and 10% are G.E related. For example General education in California consists of this:
Area A: English 101, English 102, and Speech 100
Area B: Introductory Biology, Oceanography, and Introductory Statistics and Probability
Area C: Art History, Dance, and Philsophy
Area D: US History 101, U.S Government, and Sociology
Area E: Health 101
