How can you get your web site to top of search engins without paying a fortune?
I have added loads of keywords but have seen people say you can get your site to top of search engins without paying.. How?
You can with a LOT of patience and hard work.
Submitting it to as many ‘free directories’ as possible or paying your host a small fee to get it listed with the ‘major’ search engines. (Search Engine Optimisation tools – SEO).
Also, sort out a “robots.txt” file. This gives permission to the webcrawlers and spiders from the search engines to look through the content of your site. You can exclude certain files & directories of you wish.
Just add THIS into the root directory of your site NOT in a folder.
User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /images/
It allows all spiders to look, but keeps them out of the dissallowed folders.
I successfully got my business listed FIRST in Yahoo, Ask, Altavista and third in Google (hardest) with this method with a two word search “what I do” and “my town”.
A ‘cheat’ is to write a huge description in the smallest font possible (couple of hundered words), listing every possible keyword you want – even misspelling them, and have it in the same colour as the background (invisible). This REALLY works, but is slightly frowned upon.
Bear in mind that the web searches are only updated every two to four weeks – so patience is a virtue!!
